TE WHETU.

. . THE CRICKET CLUB. The To Whctu Cricket Club has been formed, and the game has been assiduously taken up by some twenty members. The club has now a new ground, with a well-made, fast pitch, and thanks chiefly to the generosity of tlie Bartholomew Timber Co., and vice-presidents of the club, is in possession of some first-class equipment, matting, etc. The club is now open to matches with Putaruru, Waotu and Mangatapu, and Mr. McKee, the energetic’secretary, would be glad to hear from these teams with a view to matches after the -holidays. Three trophies have also been presented to the club, by Messrs. Forbes, Dobson and McKee, for the highest score, best bowling- and best batting averages respectively, during- the season in outside matches. ■ ON THE ROADS. The road from Lichfield to Bart’s j Siding, and to Te Whetu, has recently been graded and is in good order, except for the big culvert near the cross roads. This place was washed out during last winter, ar.d although there is a great deal of motor and vehicular traffic on the road, the part complained of is still merely bridged with a few planks, and is a source of danger to mororists especially, who would welcome repairs at this spot. NEW lIALL OPENED. ‘ The employees of the South Tara- ; naki Building Co. have for some weeks past been engaged on the erection of a hall in their settlement. It is a fine commodious building, equipped with two dressing rooms, a roomy stage and two stage dressing rooms. An operating- box for a picture entertainment is also provided above the entrance, and we understand arrangements are in prog-ress for the inauguration of a picture show after Christmas. This will fill a long felt want in the district, which now includes nearly two hundred and fifty persons. The new hall, although not quite finished internally, was opened with a concert last Saturday, provided by the “ Merry Makers ” troupe of Pierrots. The entertainment was largely attended, and proved a great success, reflecting great credit on the producer, Mr. W. Randell, junr.. The following- programme was submitted: Opening- chorus, “ Laughter Makers,” the Merry Makers; song, “ Drinking,” Mr. H. Randell; concerted item, “ Alice Blue Gown,” Mrs. W. E.
