LICHFIELD-TOKOROA.
OPENING ANOTHER ROUTE, j The I’aranui Road. The question of opening what is called the Paraonui road, on the borderjand of the Lichfield and Tokoroa districts, was dealt with by the Matamata Countv Council on Friday. Cr. K. S. Cox (Tokoroa riding) reported on the conference that bad been held between the settlers concerned and the county engineer and himself. However, he said, the settlers could not agree among themselves as to what route should be followed, and it appeared to him the only alternative left to the Council was to open the existing dedicated road. This followed a good gully witb the exception of one rocky part, where a deviation would be necessary. The engineer. Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald, said that the route advocated by Mr. C. Leslie would certainly give a. double frontage through Mr. Leslie's farm, but would cut out Mr. W. Johnson’s present frontage. and therefore be agreed with Cr. Cox that apparently the best thing the Council could do was to open the existing dedicated road. This road was not fenced, and had the settlers’ Taranaki gates across it. The settlers would have to be given notice to remove those gates and then presumably they would also fence the road. It had transpired during the investigation of this matter that the dedication of the Lichfield-Waotu road had never been completed. Cr. Cox’s suggestion was adopted by resolution, and the engineer was also instructed to have the dedication of the Lichfield-Waotu road completed. _ It was stated that the Paraonuv road gave access to properties owned by Messrs. E. McGregor, D. D. Sneddon and C. Leslie.
