ATHLETIC SPORTS.

THE PUTARURU (LUB. The annual meeting’ of the Puiaruru Athletic Club was held in the Town Hal) on Wednesday evening* of last week, the chairman, Mr. J. Barr Brown, presiding* over an attendance of eleven members. SPORTS ON EASTER MONDAY. In reply to a question, the chairman explained that in past seasons the annual meeting* had usually been held in February, but the club had resolved some time ago that in future the annual meeting* be held before November 30 in each year. Before proceeding* with the routine business, the chairman stated that the question of the date on which the club’s annual sports were to be held had arisen, the Rotorua club having* applied to the Northern Athletic Union to be allotted both Easter Saturday and Easter Monday, but as th? latter was invariably the Putaruru Club’s day, the union asked the Putaruru club to advise it before October 31 whether it desired to reserve tins day. Accordingly a meeting of the. club had been convened a fortnight ago, but it had lapsed for the want of a quorum. The secretary and he had thereupon applied to the Union for Easter Monday for the Putavuvu sports. Mr. J. Rolfe asked why had the Rotorua club been allowed to hold it? sports last year on Easter Monday, clashing* with the Putaruru fixture. The chairman replied that the same position had arisen in this instance also, Rotorua applying for Easter Monday and the Union asking the Putaruru club whether it wanted that <lay. The Putaruru club, however, did not hold a meeting to decide the question, and the. day was allowed to Rotorua:

Tt was moved by Messrs. Rolfe and A. Smith that the Putaruru club hold its sports this season on Easter Monday, as usual, and that the chairman and the secretary be thanked for securing this date for the club. This was carried unanimously. MR. DOWD’S ASSISTANCE.

It. was reported that Mr. J. M Dowel had expressed his willingness to again allow the club the use o<* his grounds for its sports. It was resolved to 'reply' expressing *he club’s . thanks to Mr. Dowd for this and past favours, and, at Mr. Hollos suggestion,,. Mr. Dowd was circled a lijjfmcmbev of the club, he to be presented with a special emblem in token of this, a sub-committee comprising the chairman, the seevetarv and Mr. Rolfe to determine the design. THE BALANCE-SHEET. The statement of receipts and expenditure for the past season was submitted by tile secretary, Mr. H. L. Martin, who explained that it bad not yet been audited owing to the nonappointment of an auditor. The statement showed as follows: R c_ , ceipts, £203 2s lOd; expenditure, £IBO 3s 2d; leaving a credit balance of £22 19s. In moving that the statement be received, and adopted subject to its being certified as correct by an auditor, members remarked that, all circumstances considered, it showed a satisfactory position. Certainly it revealed a loss of £ll or so on last year’s sports, but when it was considered that .the ipjrize money bad been increased by about 50 per cent, and also that the day proved sp unsatisfactory one as regards weather, the loss was not serious. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £G 6s for ins services during the past season. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following were elected the officers for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr. A. G. Leggatt; president, Mr. H. B. Coupe; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. H. Dukeson, G. P. Portas, F. C. Barnett, J- R- o. Loehhead, A. E. BariBrown, H. Leslie, and B. All possible competitors were excluded from the programme committee. A PROGRAMME COMPETITION. It was resolved at the instance of Mr. Rolfe that suggested programmes for the sports be invited by the programme committee from the general public, a prize of £1 Is to be
