HARBOUR MATTERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sm. —On several occasions lately I have had to go to the wharf, and have almost invariably found oil-launches or boats moored at the end of it, with stern lines out across the channel, and one ovening recently it was with the greatest difficulty that an incoming launch avoided going full tilt, and stem on, into a small oil-launch moored in the manner indicated. This is not as it should be, and if trouble in the future is to be avoided written instructions should be given the Wharfinger to cast off all lines of boats so moored. That, the Chairman of the Harbour Board is feeling the responsibility s of his position is certain, as I am assured by a most reliable spectator that he was seen to bo quietly exploring the channel and taking soundings at 2.30 a.m. on Sunday. Surely some improvement in the channel will be the outcome of so much energy and zeal on the part of so prominent a member of the Board. -—I am, etc., .Neptune.
