CAT AND DOG STORY.

A friend of mine is the owner of ( fine Persian cat, and also of a retriever dog'. I'uss had a playful waji of sitting on the arm of a chair, and immediately the dog walked past scratching its ear or back. After suffering in silence 'fbr a. few days, the dog, in its meekest manner, walked close to tho chair, and then lay down to watch and wait until puss was oil her guard. When the importunity came he took her in his mouth, and, despite scratches and cries, rah to the stables, where he dropped' her into the water-butt, which stood there. Although there was not much water in it, it was a very bedraggled but much wiser pussy that emerged from the butt.
