"You don't happen to want a nice, well-trained little dog, ma'am, do you '?" asked the dog-fancier of a lady eustomer who was buying some canaries. "I. find it impossible to keep a dog in .my tiny' flat," said the lady; "the rooms .are. so small." "The size o' yer flat needn't prevent you, ma'am. Look at this 'ere little pup," he said, patting a small specie*; of mongrel. " 'E's specially trained for flat life, 'e is." "Trained for a flat ? Why, what do you mean ?" "Flats 'ave killed the ordinary 'orizontal dog trade, ma'am." "Horizontal dogs !" ejaculated the. puzzled lady. "Well, it's like this 'ere, ma'am," he explained. "With such a pup as this, there's no fear of 'is breakin' 'oles in the walls when 'e wags 'is tail. 'E's trained to wag his tail perpendicular, 'owever pleased 'e is !"
