MARLBOROUGH EDUCATION BOARD.
At the Board’s monthly meeting on Tuesday evening the following business relating to schools in this district was dealt with ;
Vo “ Ml 'm? 00 ? r ®P° rtod having visited the Grove. The tender had been let to Mr Roade for £SO, The specifications were deficient, and it was found necessary to oail for fresh tenders. This time the tender was £77. A conference over the matter had resulted in an arrangement having been come to for the removal of the sohool to the Linkwater site at a oost of £57 10s.—The Committee wrote agreeing to this arrangement.—The Board approved. K Renwick.—The Committee intimated the resignation of Mr Stratford, the head teacher.—The resignation was accepted, and it was decided that applications for the position be invited, and that a temporary teaoher bo appointed by 7th May. Canvastown.—A request for repairs and painting was received, and the school placed on the Board’s workman's list. Flat Creek.—The Chairman of the Committee again wrote in reference to the projected establishment of a new school in the Ronga.-Mr Reader reported that the site had not yet been fixed, and would probably be removed further away from Flat Creek. Waitaria.—The Sounds Committee were granted /to towards re-building a chimney that had been blown down. Koromiko.—Six applications for the assistant teachership were forwarded to the Koromiko Committee, None were fully certificated. It was left to the Town Committee of the Board to appoint.—Miss Allen was temporarily appointed. Deep Creek.—A Committee having been elected, it was desired that Kathleen Edmonds should be appointed teacher temporarily,—Approved. • - the secretaryship. Forty-four applications for the vacant secretaryship were received. The Chairman stated that he had asked Mr Strachan to go carefully through the list, which he had done, selecting six for the ballot of the Board. The Board, in Committee, balloted between Mr Norman Williams, of Nelson, and Mr Hylton, of Wellington, The ballot went in favour of Mr Hylton. On resuming, Mr Hylton was appointed to the position, and Mr Williams named as a substitute. THE PICXON SCHOOL. Thirty-six applications for the Headmastership were referred to the Picton Committee. The question of confirming their choice was left to the Town Committee of the Board.
