SAILOR AND CARVING KNIFE.
To celebrate the return of the Prince and Princess from India a well-known naval officer gave a sort of informal supper-party to certain of his bachelor colleagues in the service. The host, who is not an adept in the art of carving, occasioned much merriment by his handling of a big turkey. One veteran officer, who had evidenced considerable uneasiness at the result of the host’s efforts to draw the dressing through the side of the bird, finally leaned toward the head of the table, and in a hoarse whisper observed ; “Further aft, captain ! A little further aft !’'
