TO “ELAUS”
Indignant Citizen (“Flower of tho Pino ”) (?) Tho “Olivo” branch hold out to him must decline. Citizen. THE TOWN BOARD AND BROWNLEE PARK, TO THE EDITOR. Snt,—Cannot you condole with tho young ladies’ Hockey Club in their endeavour to try and get a little outdoor enjoyment and then to be crushed by that go-ahoad person the Chairman of the Havelock Town Board, because the girls asked if they could dig a trench about three inches wide and an inch and a half deep? His plea was that the minute book showed that the Domain ground was not to bo interfered with by the public. Now, Mr Chairman, answer me these questions: Why were the Football Club allowed to trench their boundary lines last season ? and then, again, why wore the Axemen’s Carnival Committee allowed to drive posts (big pegs) in the ground to hold ttie blocks steady, and then allowed to leave the ground strewn with chips, which are lying about there now, and will be a source of danger to the players of the different games w'heu the ground gets slippery during tho winter months? Now, Sir, in the face of these things being done on the Domain would you use your power as Chairman and give the casting-vote against the use of the Domain for hockey, but will allow any other game? Have not the young ladies as much right to use the ground as anybody else ?—1 am, etc., Aktuuk Reade.
