HAVELOCK TOWN BOARD.
♦ •Wednesday, 3rd April. Present;—Messrs Price (Chairman), Smitli, Taylor, and Orsman, The Librarian's books showed a credit of 16s 6d on account of the Library. TELEPHONE TO OKAIUMO. The petition from settlers at Havelock Suburban, praying for telephone connection between Havelock and Okaramio, with an office at the Suburban Post Office, was submitted to the Board by the Secretary. Mr Smith said it was a very necessary thing, and he thought that every ; business man in Havelock should assist the scheme. Mr Orsman also supported the proposal, saying it was a big step in the progress of the district. Personally, he was willing to guarantee o,ne pound, if necessary. Mr Taylor explained that what was wanted was for the Board to support the petition and to become guarantors with the Road Board and the settlers, if necessary. Mr Smith therefore moved to that effect. Mr Orsman seconded the proposition, which was carried. GENERAL. The Omaka Road Board notified that Ihe Blenheim Borough Council having agreed to pay a contribution towards the Fordkeeper's salary he bad been re-instated, and that the Omaka Board retained control of the Fords. The Secretary of the Takorika Hockey Club asked permission to play on Brownlee Park and to mark a halfcircle trench in front of the goalposts.—lt was pointed out that a minute was on the books to the effect that the ground was not to be cut up. —Mr Taylor moved that the minute be rescinded, and said that at the next meeting he would move that the Club be given permission to make a shallow circle.—Mr Smith seconded the proposition.—The Chairman moved an amendment that the minute be not rescinded, and Mr Orsman seconded.— The amendment was carried, on the casting-vote of the Chairman. Mr Orsman moved, and Mr Smith seconded, that the dayman be put on to cut the long grass at the top of the playing area on Brownlee Park, and that a T drain be constructed to intercept the surface-water at the top end of the ground.—Carried. Mr H. White was given permission to open up the footpath near Mr Smith's residence, in order to put a ; pipe drain to carry away the stormwater from the vacant section there. ' The Board agreed to supply the neces- . sary pipes. Mr Orsman drew attention to the ' unsatisfactory nature of the drainage : into the section next his store, and it was resolved that an inspection of the locality be made, with a view to I improving the drainage. It was resolved to increase the pay for grave-digging to 15s per grave. Accounts amounting to £l6 14s 2d were passed for payment.
