VOYAGE OF ADVENTURE.
MUTINOUS CREW MET BY OFFICERS ARMED WITH RIFLES.. A story of the sea, which reads like a chapter from a book of adventures written for boys, was told at Belfast. Arthur Barnes, boatswain's mate, of Sydney, was charged with having fired at Mr. I). Bailie, the actingcaptain of the barque Dunfermlino, on a voyage from California to Belfast.
It was stated that during a gale the skipper was drowned, Mr. Bailie taking his place, and that the crew afterwards objected to proceeding on tho voyage, as the ship was damaged During another hurricane the third mate fell overboard, and could not be found until the captain located him by a Hock of birds hovering over some object.
Whilo tho boat was being lowered to rescuo him, Barnes interfered, and called upon the crew to put Bailie in irons. The captain was obliged to supply the officers with rifles.
Whilst tho mutinous 6eamen were mustered on the poop he ordered them to arrest Barnes, who snatched a rifle from the steward and fired at the captain, the bullet almost grazing his head. A general rush was then made at Bailie, who rushed to his cabin, where, with three loaded rifles, he kept the crew at bay. Subsequently ho came out, and succeeded in bringing the shJR to Belfast,
