RAI HOODLUMS.
to the Editor. Sir,—Hoodlumisra seems (o be growing rapidly in this district, and it is to be traced to the leniency of the authorities. Since those lads were practically let off scott free a concert in the Rai has become impossible. At the school concert held recently the behaviour of certain lads was scandalous. Insulting behaviour and horse-play have been of regular occurrence at public functions. At an entertainment given by the Rev. Mr Scott on Saturday night the same behaviour was repeated. In addition to the usual forms of annoyance Mr Scott's pony was interfered with, which led to its being staked in two places and lamed. Is this sort of thing to go on indefinitely ? When these lads appear before the Court, which won't be very long, I hope they will be taught a lesson in the shape of a month, without the option of a fine;—l am, etc, Indignant. Rai Valley.
