Maori Mormons.
A BIG GATHERING. Napier, March 28, “ Elaborate preparations are being made by the Natives of the centres between Moawhango and Hawke’s Bay for the Mormon meeting to be held at Mangaone, commencing in a fortnight. So far as Moawhango is concerned, ninety-five per cent, of the Native residents have already proceeded to Mangaone. A Masterton Sensation. Wellington, March 2G. In connection with the death of Miss Howell, of Masterton, some months ago, and the subsequent exhumation of her body for the purposes of analysis, the Police Department state that the analysis disclosed traces of zinc poisoning. Outbreak of Turnip Disease. Wellington, March 2G. A serious turnip disease has attacked the crops at Fernridge, near Masterton, On one farm sixteen acres of turnips were growing, apparently healthy in every respect, when a few days later the crown of the turnips were streaked with a form of black blight, since when the whole crop rotted into the ground. As showing the drastic nature of the disease, turnips weighing from two to five pounds were reduced to a pulp in as many days.
