It is thought that Vincent Pyke will defeat Scobie Mackenzie for Mount Ida. To the Tuapeka Times, a corresdondent writing from Clyde says of the contest: —" Political matters are now the chief topic in this district, and great interest attaches to the coming fight between Messrs Pyke and Scobie Mackenzie for Mount Ida. In the Dunstan district he is certain to get a block vote; while throughout Mount Ida, which is new ground to him, he will divide the votes and carry off much the bigger half. The old warrior is expected up this way next week, when, I have no doubt, the magic of his voice and his persuasive eloquence will win him votes on every hand."
