September 28. The first trial of the .ammunition manufactured by Captain Whitney of Auckland, has been highly satisfactory. William B. Ledger, a clerk employed in the Union Bank, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on a charge of conspiring to obtain £3560 from the Bank by false pretences, and with falsifying the ledger with the intent to defraud. The prisoner ip a. brother of the man who is alleged to have forged and uttered a cheque for £SOOO, but who has not yet been arrested. : a. t; September 29. The students at Trinity University have revolted owing to long standing grievances against the Warden. One of their number made charges to the Senate, and the latter gave him half an hour to-substantiate or be expelled. The student complained that the time was 'insufficient, and was expelled. Thirty-four out of fifty students then left the college in a body.
