The Cost of Law.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Do you not think it is high time something was done in the matter of simplifying the cost of transferring land, I will give you an instance of the cost of one piece of land. It’s original cost was £7los; then it passed through the hands of nine individuals, and the coats have now amounted to £l2, the last having to pay £B, and the land is valued at £ls. Now I think that ass stamp and the signature of the official ought to be quite sufficient. The signature of an official is all, we have to go by to prove our birth and many other important matters, and why not land ? I know that lawyers must live, but I do not believe in them living on the likes of
Poor Pilgarlick.
