Mining in the Butler.
LTBLL, | ; July 80. The reef was struck in the Alpine No. 7 level this morning carrying excellent prospects of gold. The reef, so far: as broken into, show* five feet, when the men knocked .off, owing to the immense body of water coming in. This level is 170 feet perpendicular from the intermediate level now working, which is 110 feet below the No. 6 level. The stone may be said to be now proved for a perpendicular depth of 280. feet giving 450 feet of backs, and plainly showing at least eight years profitsble work. Great interest is being taken in this locality (in the dredging areas , consequent on the excellent returns from, the. Alexandra claim' at Pern Flat. The Bnller and Matnkitaki rivers are nearly all taken up. Messrs Reeves, M.H.R., Kilgour, Taylor, Mace, and Wessels were here during last week, making arrangements, and a boom is expected in both branches of mining during the coming summer.
