Marie Finney, the lady swimmer, who recently dived from London Bridge, caused a sensation in Dublin by attempting to dive from O’Connell’s Bridge into the river Liffey. Thousands of people assembled, butj ustas Miss Finney was clambering along the battlements, previous to the dive, she was seized by a policeman and arrested. Miss Finney was subsequently brought before the magistrate and charged with obstructing the thoroughfare. A fine of <£i was imposed. An indication of the spread ot English as a language is giyen by the fact that it has just been chosen for use in the recording of important treaty engagements between Russia and China.
