The Labour Question.
Wellington, June 6. The ballot amongst railway servants in this district on the question of resorting to extreme measures in the dispute with the Railway Commissioners, resulted : for, three hundred ; against, forty-nine. A ballot was also taken on the question of the Federation of the Society of railway servants with the Maritime Council, showing the following result; for, three hundred and fifty-one; against, eight. Christchurch, June 6.
The Canterbury branch of. the Society of railway servants voted for federation with the Maritime Council, 861; against, 4 ; informal, 1. Hobart, June 6.
On arrival of the steamer Waihora from the Bluff, the wharf labourers refused to discharge her, owing to a dispute with the stevedore, who they accused of favouring certain members of the Union. Eventually the stevedore was removed, and the vessel discharged. The difficulty is only temporarily arranged, and further trouble is anticipated.
