Mr Gordon, Inspector of Mines, is now visiting this district for the purpose of inspecting the Golden Bar at Wakamarina, having visited Mahakipawa last week. Attention is directed to Mr Pye’s advertisemen re plumbing and tinsmithing. i Mr Masefield invites tenders for clearing 100 acres of bush on the Manaroa Bun. Late on Thursday evening the shed belonging to the Tua Marina Rowing Club, another shed in which some grain was stored, and an adjoining stable were burned down. The boats were saved. A foot race for £25 a-side has been arranged between R. P; Priddle and George Blanchett to come off at the Riveriands Racecourse on Saturday next.

We regret to bear of the death, by drowning, of Mr Thomas Hustwick, -aged 21 years, eldest son of Mr T. Hustwick, chemist; ofßlenheim. He was out in a boat on the Opawa River, and, as he was subject to fits, it is supposed this was the cause of his, being drowned, as his body was found close to the bank in a few feet of water.

We were glad to see so much interest displayed by the settlers in the Sounds ,at the meeting on Saturday to deal with the question of a mail service and a track from Nydia Bay. We will have something to say on this matter in our next.

There appears to be a little burglary business going on in Blenheim at the present time. Mr Walsh’s store was broken into the other night, and other places have been visited.
