The Wakamarina Gorge.
At a meeting of the directors, held at Blenheim, a long report was read from Mr J. S. Macalister on the position of this company, a portion of which will be found elsewhere, which went to show that the want of funds was in a great measure the cause of the work being suspended. There are 1280 shares unallotted, which mIP to sbartholders
first and then to the general public. We feel confident that there will be no difficulty in disposing of this number, as the work to be done now to unearth whatever gold there is in the Gorge is comparatively easy. On previous occasions the difficulties to be overcome could not be ascertained with any degree ,of accuracy, but now that the Gorge has been pumped out and a considerable portion of the first paddock cleared it is positively known what can be done, and no doubt now exists as to whether the work can be accomplished. As far as the prospects are concerned there is more reason than ever to believe that a sufficient quantity of gold will be obtained to fully repay the the shareholders with the oft chance of something exceptional. There is, therefore, no reason to doubt but what the unalloted shares will find a speedy sale, and the work proceeded with without much loss of time.
