UPPER WAIRAU RACING CLUB.
The annual meeting of the above club was held at Renwicktown on Easter Monday. The weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance was quite up to expectations. The fields for the Various events were numerous, and the racing on the whole was very good. One accident occurred, but luckily not of a serious character, M‘lver, who was piloting Jack in the Hack Hurdles, getting a nasty spill which rendered him insensible for a short time. Much delay and unpleasantness was caused by protests being entered against Flywheel who passed the post first in the Maiden, and Ada who won the Trotting Race—in the first-named case the totalisator money was impounded until two other events had been rim off, which gave rise to considerable dissatisfaction to speculators. The decision of the stewards, however, was that Flywheel be disqualified, having won public money previously, and Orina, the second horse, was declared the winner, and a nice dividend of £l6 8s was paid out at the totalisator; the protest against Ada in the Trot was not sustained. The sum of £956 was passed through the totalisator by Mr F. N. Jones in his usual accurate maimer, which is more than double the amount invested at this club’s meeting last Easter.
