THE NEW ELECTORATE.

We were pleased to see that at the last meeting of the Picton Borough Council, on the motion of Mr Seymour it was decided to invite the local bodies to appoint delegates to discuss what is of most vital importance, viz., the most

suitable boundaries for the electorate, j I The unfortunate decision of the House of Representatives two years ago to reduce the number of members has made it again necessary to alter the size and boundaries of the electorates. The present position of the WaimeaPicton electorate is most unfortunate, two-thirds of the electors on this side are allied with one-third on the Nelson side, with interests wholly foreign to

one another, and if, as report says, the Waimea is to be tacked on to Nelson City, and the quota to make up the present Picton seat is to be taken from the other side of Blind Bay, namely, Motueka and surrounding districts, our position would indeed be ludicrous. To anyone who knows this district it is at once apparent that an alliance with the present Wairau electorate would be the most natural and best solution of the difficulty. Our interests are the same, our means of communication good, and what would benefit Blenheim and Picton must tend to advance'this district and vice versa. We hope this./ of delegates will be promptly held, I ?and representations so powerful the Commissioners that our loss from "the reduction of members may be minimised by a suitable arrangemen|, of the electoral boundaries.
