ADVANCE NEW ZEALAND.

‘ Telemachus,’ in the Argus, urges the New Zealand Government to provide facilities for Australians visiting their unrivalled scenery. He says : 44 Subsidise steamships, cut down railway fares, make tracks to every lake and to every mountain, and every nest of glory amongst these hills (Wakatipu). I would say with all earnestness and not without some practical knowledge—This is your exhibition ; here is your bold and permanent advertisement to the world. This will some day g’ve to you all that the Alps and lakes have given to Switzerland and the Tyrol. Melbourne will by-and-bye have more need of the tonic of an alpine tour than either London or Paris. Melbourne in this year, did she know of yourglory and of the easy means by which it might be reached would flood your land with tourists. And herself would greatly gain thereby. And here is a note for those who manage the larger affairs of New Zealand. It- is quoted from from the Argus of December 23. 4 Last week upwards of 900 passengers, left Melbourne for the Tasmanian ports.’ And Tasmania is not quite like New Zealand. But then we should want you to land us at the Bluff in three da s and a-half, to run us on to Wakatipu in another, and to have a few little matters prepared for our arrival.” The Argus follows t'Js up with a leading article urging the same views.
