Sporting Notes.
A meeting of the Pelorus Jockey Club was held on Saturday night to make final airrangements for the meeting to be held to-morrow. The active working stewards were allotted their various duties, and no effort will be .on their .part to make it a ’Bcessful meeting. The fields will, I fear, he small, Mr Green’s, including Victory, having returned to Nelson. Neither Victory nor. Dim O’Connell are-well. . - I expect to see a good race, bar accidents, in the Hurdles, but I think at the difference in weights Sawdust should win; also that Barosma holds the others safe in both Cup and Stakes, Pompey is the best outsider. I would again remind visitors of the dance to be held in the Town in the evening, when the Bijou String Band will be present. The Hon. W. White intends offering for sale his large number of race-horses after the next Autumn Meeting—except Abereorn, retaining also his famous. Stud Farm, as he is about to visit England. ‘ This, perhaps, temporary .withdrawal from the Australian turf will be a severe loss to backers.
