Mr. G. Stubbs returned from the Southern Cross works yesterday, but too late for us to give our readers any information. We are glad to learn that the deflected column of pipes has been successfully withdrawn, and that the 8 inch hole was found to be perfectly plumb. Drilling is now being continued preparatory to putting in the pipes again, the defective joint will be removed and no further difficulty should be experienced in sinking to the required depth. During the stoppage of operations a large quantity of oil collected in the bottom of the hole, and taken altogether the indications are such as to warrant energy and perseverance beiSg applied to the enterprise.
