[Per United Press Association.] Dunedin, December 4. Mr. Stout arrived here yesterday, and wfll stay till after the New Year. A claim by Mr. Sidey for £lO,OOO compensation was discussed by the City Council on Tuesday night. The claim had previously been ignored by the Council, because it was not made in time, though they would otherwise have entertained it, but last session a clause was introduced in the Public Worki Act making the claim valid. It is believed the clause was introduced by a Dunedin member, and the Council appointed a deputation to wait on the Premier on the matter. The Public Woiks Department are about to call for tenders for the permanent station buildings on the Waiherao branch line. This section will complete the line to Jordan’s, from the junction of Macrae’s with Shag Valley road. They also intend to let by oontraot the unfinished section of the Hindon contract to the unemployed. Timaru, December 4.
