Tmjb fortnightly meeting of the Borough Coucil wi« held lust night. Present Cm., Towley (in the chair) Lewis, Wilson, Smith, Grahm, Brown, Hepburn Joyce, and Kenny. Te minutes of the last ordinary and apeel meetings were read and confirmed. Turanganui Bridge Contract. Te outgoing correspondence was read whih partly consisted of two communications conerning the Turanganui Bridge contract, vis.to Messrs Henderson, Wratt and Co., interning them that the Council still declined to ffer any guarantee for their timber, and to dr. W. Adair informing him that the Concil refused to release him from his bonds entred into with Mr. Houlden. The Nightsoil>man's Claim. I letter enclosing an account for £1 was reeived from Mr. Burch, the nightsoil contracor, for alterations to his new cart. I answer to the Chairman the Inspector of > usances stated that Mr. Birch had informed him that he would have the repairs exeuted at his own expense. fr. Wilson said he should do so. He wold move “ That the account be sent back, ancthat Mr. Burch be informed that he had no mthority whatever to interfere with Borugh property. He did not see how the dtil could be urged in any way.” Q. Graham seconded. (r. Joyce could not see why Mr. Burch shald be charged with the amount as the repirs to the cart had certainly improved it, am no doubt the Public Works Committee ovrlooked it. He would move as an amendmmt, “ That the account be paid, subject to tha approval of the Public Works Committee.” Cr. Smith seconded.

Cr. Wilson maintained that the expense should not have been incurred without the Council being consulted. The amendment was then put and lost, and the original proposition was carried. Water Trough. Mr. H. Cannon wrote requesting that permission be granted him for the erection of a water trough in front of his premises. Permission was sanctioned subject to the approval of the Engineer. Engineer's Report. The Engineer reported as follows Gravel.—McDeavitt’s for 100 cubic yards has been finished, 103 yards have been delivered and I recommend a final payment -of £25 6s. sd. Forty cubic yards ordered before the 100 cubic yards were contracted for have been delivered by D. Malone and payment (£11), is now due. The above was adopted. Leasing of the Patutahi Reserve. Only one tender was received for the leasing of section 115, 1,000 acres Patutahi Reserve, that of Mr. H. H. Wall, as follows: —For the first seven years, £lO per annum; for the second seven years, £2O per annum; for the third seven years, £3O per annum. Cr. Smith said that it was not so much as offered on a previous occasion, it being then £3O, £l5, and £75. Cr. Graham moved that the tender be not accepted. Cr, Wilson seconded.—Carried.

Stanley Road. It was agreed to call for tenders, to be in by next Tuesday, for the formation of Stanley road, and carting metal off that road. Taruheru Bridge. Cr. Joyce proposed that the Taruheru JJridge be cleaned once a week, as it would po doubt be beneficial to the bridge. Mr. Wilkinson was instructed to take a note of it. This was all the business.
