The proposal for an Auckland cricket team to make a Southern tour will be finally considered by the Cricket Association on Thursday. Doubts are entertained whether the team should go as representing the province, or simply as a club. The feeling, however, is strongly in favor of the former course. R. Ray, the well-known private trainer of Messrs Robinson and Lance, will shortly leave Christchurch. He has leased the Grip Lodge stable to Mr. G. G. Stead for five years. The Wairarapa sporting folks are sorely exercised over the following coincidence:— At last year’s Spring Meeting of the Jockey Club Mr. Tancred had two horses entered for the principal event, namely Odd Trick and Consul. He declared to win with the former, and the latter took the stakes. This year the same gentleman had Administrator and First Water engaged. According to the local Star he declared to win with First Water, and after all won with Administrator, First Water being second. The result of last year could not possibly be found fault with, as Ninnette beat the pair and was disqualified for not carrying the weight, but when an owner can run first and second as Mr. Tancred did this year, it is considered hardly good form to allow the public to lose their money by the wrong horse passing the post first.
