CORRESPONDENCE

We do not hold oursolvos responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents.) TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am sure your alteration in my letter of thanks to the ratepayers of the Waikohu Riding was prompted by kindness (English, as every one knows, being so rarely written or spoken correctly outside the editorial sanctum), but in the case in question your misplaced kindness overwhelms me with shame. You make my address read “ Ladies and Gentlemen ” instead of “ Madam and Gentlemen.” Now as there is only one lady elector in the riding, I am afraid that the male portion of my constituents will take offence at the word “ Ladies,” inasmuch as they may think [ wished to include “ old women of both sexes ” in the term. —Yours, &c., W. K. Chambers.
