[Own Correspondent.] CiiKisTcnußCU, November 15. The third day of the Metropolitan Meet* ing was held yesterday. The weather was fine and the attendance capital. The following are the icsults :— Nursery Handicap, 300 sovs., 4 furlongs. Nemesis 1 Strenuous 2 Stoneyhurst 3 Wizard, Hermitage, Tasmania, Trefoil, Spade Guinea, Mabel filly, Lady Gertrude, Miss Russley and Cheap Jack also ran. Wai-iti colt and The Shah were scratched. A good race. Won by a bare half-length. Time : 52 secs. Ladies’ Purse, 100 sovs., 2 miles. lonic .. 1 Gaiters 2 Marmion .. .. .. .. 3 Anly, Ravenswood, Spinaker, If So, and Vanity Fair also ran. Won by a length. Time : 3 mins. 56 secs.

Canterbury Cup, 500 sovs., 2} miles. Welcome Jack .. .. .. 1 Black Rose 2 Tasman .. .. .. .. 8 Minerva and Leodogran also ran. Leodogran had the worst of the start, but was leading on entering the straight the first time and maintained the lead till reaching the half-mile post in the second round, when he was passed by Minerva and Black Rose, the latter taking command. Coming into the straight Black Rose still led, but Welcome Jack, who had been in the rear, came up, and overhauling the leader at every stride, won a good race by about a length from Black Rose, Tasman a good third, Minerva fourth and Leodogran last. Time : 4 mins. 15| secs. Metropolitan Handicap, 300 sovs., 1| miles. Sou-’wester .. .. .. 1 Leonora .. .. 2 Ike ■ 8 Vanguard, Lady Emma, Turquoise, Nelson Johnny Faulkner, Tim Whiffier, Speculation, and Dime also ran. At the finish a neck and neck race ensued between Sou-’wester and Leonora, the former winning by a neck. Time : 2 mins, 44 j secs. Selling Race, 100 sovs.; 6 furlongs. Talebearer.. ~ 1 Mata 2 Youth 3 Rally, Deceiver, Duchess of Albany, and Patrican also ran. Time, 1 min. 18| sec. Flying Handicap, 150 sovs,; 5 furlongs. Wapiti ~ 1 Ike 2 Taiaroa 3 Lady Evelyn, Water King, Rubina, Pearl, Speculation, and Marion also ran. There was a rattling race from the distance post between Wapati, Ike, and Taiaroa, amidst great excitement, Wapiti landing the stakes by a short head, Taiaroa half-a-length off, the rest well up. Time, 1 min. 3| sec.

Consolation. Billy 1 Tim Whiffier .. .. .. 2 Eight horses started. Won by half-a-length. CHALLENGE. Mr. Redwood has challenged Mr. Pilbrow to run Welcome Jack against Black Rose for £lOOO in three months. CRICKET—ENGLAND V. VICTORIA [beuter’s telegrams.] Melbourne, November 14. A cricket match between the English team and Eleven of Victoria was commenced today. Owing to unfavorable weather the attendance of spectators was small, and play was stopped on account of the rain at intervals during the day. Not much interest was taken in the match. An excellent wicket was pitched and the ground was in good order. The visitors went in first, and at the close of the day’s play had lost 6 wickets for 168 runs.
