New Guinea Protectorate.
[Reuters Telegrams.] Brisbane, November 14. H.M. gunboat Swinger has arrived at Cooktown, and announces that the protectorate over New Guinea was proclaimed on the 6th instant. The ceremony was a very impressive one. Five ships of war were at anchor off shore, and fifty native chiefs were present.
