The Hospital Committee met last night. Present: Messrs. Graham (in the Chair), Brown, Nolan, Matthewson, Adair, and Dr. Pollen. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Treasurer's Report. The Treasurer reported as follows:—The subsidy for last quarter has not come to hand, but may be expected by the Ringarooma. The interest on Wi Brown's mortgage due 30th September has not been paid. Since last meeting had received £2 12s. 6d. as fees, from patients. He trusted all the members of the Committee would use every endeavor to make the St. Andrew’s jlte a success, as they had no other visible to carry us on till the end of the year. At a corresponding perion to this last year, a large number of annual subscriptions were paid, but very few hud been received since the annual meeting. JFi Brown’a Interest. The Chairman asked what should be done with regard to the above interest, which was now overdue ? Mr. Adair—Mr. Hurrey promised to me that the interest should be paid last Thursday. Mr. Nolan—Mr. Adair himself said he would pay the interest. Mr. Adair— I said that I would see that it was paid. Mr. Matthewson—We have Mr. Adair’s word for it that the money will be paid, surely that’s enough. Mr. Nolan—We have Mr. Adair’s word for it, but what is that worth ? How long are we to wait for the money ? Mr. Adair—Wi Brown is now raising a loan, and I have no doubt it will be paid shortly. Mr. Nolan—l don’t see why the Hospital should stand out of the money all this time. In reply to the Chairman the Treasurer stated that Wi Brown had £2OO, and as they took the mortgage against the solicitor’s advice they could not recover against him. Mr. Matthewson—We can get Mr. Adair’s guarantee. Mr. Nolan—What is that worth? If Mr. Adair guaranteed the money he should pay it. Mr. Adair—l did not guarantee the money. The Chairman turned up the minutes, which stated that Mr. Adair had guaranteed the payment of the money. Mr. Nolan—l propose that Wi Brown be sued forthwith for the payment of the interest now due. j Mr. Matthewson—Who is going to pay the piper ? Mr. Nolan—He will have to pay it. Mr. Adair—Wi Brown has been negotiating a loan for sometime back but failed, he is now negotiating another, and will obtain the money shortly. We all know why Mr. Nolan wants the man to be sued, and who gets the benefit of such a course. Mr. Nolan —lt is not me. Mr. Adair—lt is the lawyers, and you do it for them.

Mr. Brown—l will propose that a letter be written to Wi Brown calling attention to the amount of interest now overdue and demanding payment forthwith. Mr. Matthewson seconded.—Carried. Subscriptions. With regard to subscriptions as mentioned in the report, it was decided to allow the matter to stand over until after the sports to be held on the Ist December. The report was then adopted. War ds man’B lie port. The Wardsman’s report was read. It showed as follows:—Remaining from last quarter, 7; admitted during month, 10; discharged during month, 14; remaining at present, 8. Notes were taken of those who had not yet paid and were considered able to do so, the amounts to be demanded from them. The receipts from patients during the month amounted to £5 15s. Mattresses and Sheeting. On the proposition of the Treasurer, seconded by Mr. Booth, it was decided that the matron be authorized to get four mattresses for immediate use, and one extra one, and what sheeting she required.
