Canterbury Metropolitan Show.

[Own Correspondent.] Christchurch, November 13. The Canterbury Metropolitan Show opened yesterday, and notwithstanding the absenr® of several notable exhibitors of former years, it was of a most imposing character. Fiom pedigree sheep, pure-bred short-horns, and Clydesdales down to exhibits of butter and cheese, and the quality throughout was undeniably good. The numbers, too, were not very far short of last year, though there was a falling off in sheep and cattle. Implements and machinery seemed to cover the whole ground, while local manufactures and produce were well represented, the splendid exhibits of clothing and cloths of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company being especially noticiable. The Horticultural Society’s Show had a marquee to itself. W. C. Threlkeld took the silver medal for the best merino ram and ewe, fine combing; A. McMaster, silver medal for best merino ram strong combing. English Lieoester—Best ram, P. C. Threlkeld ; best ewe, J. Haydon. Border Leciester—Best ram and ewe, H. R. and J. C. Parker. Lincolns—Best rams, Overton; best ewe, C. Withell. Romney Marsh—Best ram and ewe, W, Boag. Southdowns—Best ram, H. J, Washbourne ; best ewe, J. Beans. Cotswold—Best ram and ewe, W. Boag. Best pen Crossbreds—H. R. and J. C. Parker. Gold medal best Shorthorn bull, G. Steel; best Shorthorn cow, John Dews. Gold medal best draught entire—John McKellar; best draught mare, W. Boag.
