INTERPROVINCIAL.
[Per United Press Association.] Napier, November 11. A rather serious accident occurred at the Spit while the Union steamer Omapere was discharging at the breastwork, from which Mr. William Taylor, (better known as Billie Taylor) narrowly escaped with his life. The accident occurred through the strop round the mast-head, which supports the derrick at the after hold carrying away, as a sling of oats was being swung over the side. Taylor was standing on a stack of grain on the breastwork, when the derrick fell, striking him on his shoulder and down his side. He was picked up insensible and at once conveyed to the Hospital, where he was promptly at tended to by Dr. Fisher, who reports his subject to be very severely bruised and strained but no bones are broken.
Dunedin, November 11. Mr. George F. Fodor has recently completed an oil-painting for a London purchaser, the subject of which is the homestead of a run, with a flock of merino sheep in the foreground. The merino sheep are very well
painted, being copied from some of the Hon. 11. Campbell’s celebrated flock. It is intended to exhibit this picture, as showing the character of Now Zealand merinos, at the Smithfield Annual Cattle Show. The Soudan War.
