MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

MRS. M. SMITH.

The first meeting of creditors in the estate of Mrs. M. Smith was held at the Deputy Official Assignee’s office this morning. Proofs of debt amounting to £B2 14s. 7d, were put in. Mrs. Smith stated that the only books she kept were cheque books, but no account books. Could not tell what monies she had received during the past six months. Gave Mr. A. W. Croft a Bill of sale over the property in October last, and ha sold under it. Had been here about two years with very little capital, only having about £lO. Did not take a boarding-house at once. Came here simply on a visit, and then ultimately started a boarding-house. Was enabled to furnish the house with the aid of friends. The boxes seized by the bailiff only contained wearing apparel. The assets only amount to about £l4. Had no cash at all. Had intended to go to Auckland last week, and informed the creditors to that effect. Mr. Croft advanced £6 to do that, but it was used in filing. Had given the Assignee all the jewellery she possessed. Thought she could make a oomposition.

To Mr. East—Had not assets in England which could be realized on. When Mr. East came to her and acted so presumptuously, she had told him that she possessed certain property in Ireland, but which could not be touched by him. That property was her father’s grave. Had no piano at Home. Mr. East thought that that was one of the sweetmeats held out to the other creditors by the debtor, who had always given him to understand that she owned property at Home which could be realized on as assets.

The Assignee said as far as he could see the debtor was entitled to £25 worth of her property and her wearing apparel if she possessed any, and he thought the property which had been seized should be given back to her, with the exception of the jewellery, The meeting then adjourned.

PENE HEIHE.

The meeting of creditors in Penei Heihe’a estate was adjourned sine die, owing to their being no creditors present.
