For some time past his affairs have not been prospering, and he has been drinking heavily, by which he was brought into a low slate of mind. Wellington, November 3. Mr. Justice Johnston has granted a writ of Habaus corpus, with a view of deciding on the legality of the confinement in Lyttelton gaol o f M’Cartny, the sailor of the H. J. Libby* accused of stabbing the captain. The writ is returnable on Wednesday next.
