The Stella left Wellington lor Gisborne at 11.50 p.m. yesterday. . , , m The b.b. Thomas Russell arrived from Napier this morning, and left for Auckland thia afternoon. . . Referring to the recent case against the seamen at Auckland the N.Z. Herald says r— Considerable difficulty was experienced in finding accommodation for the men charged, and they stood all round the counsel b table, the dock being only able to hold bix. When the Clerk of- the Court ordered the defen. danteto sit down when the cases were remanded and they were awaiting the enlargement of their bail, the Court had to be cleared of ita very targe audience before seats could be procured for them. Never before in the annals of the Auckland Police Court has such a large number of defendants been charged at once. The men seemed quite cheerful and resolute. The President of the Seamen’s Union, (Mr. Hannigan), and Treasurer, (Mr. Humphreys), were present, and to them the men appeared to look tor guidance in everything.
