Many of the ratepayers in the Waimata
Riding have been exercising their minds upon the point whether or not they will be entitled to vote on Tues-
day next for the return of five members for the Waimata Road District, in the event of their County rates being unpaid at that time. The Waimata Road District, as recently constituted, was formerly part of the Turanganui Road District. The latter district not having struck a rate, it therefore follows that the owners of property in that part of the Turanganui Road District now known as the Waimata Road District cannot in any way be indebted in respect to Road Board rates, for the simple reason no rate has been levied. Thus it is, that every person whose name appears upon the roll of the Wciimata Road District, the boundaries of which are co-terminous with those of the Waimata Riding are entitled to vote on Tuesday next, although none but those persons who have paid their rates to the County will be eligible to vote for the election of a member to represent the Riding. The polling for the Road Board will take place as i stated at the residence of Mr. A. A. George, Gisborne North, near the Whataupoko Bridge.
