Accidents, Offences, &c.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, October 29. At Fendalton, near Christchurch, a house was burned down. It belonged to Trewin, now in Taranaki, and was insured for £2OO, and the furniture for £lOO in the South British. The cause of the fire is unknown. Duneiin, October 29. At the North East Valley on Monday night, a house and store, the property of J. Brown, was burnt down. The owner is away, and Mrs. Brown saved the youngest child with great difficulty. Thomas Luther Shepherd, formerly M.H.R. died in the hospital yesterday. Last Sunday William Hodgson, while looking after sheep in the Bruce County, threw a match down after lighting his pipe, and the grass igniting, he was so burned that he died next day. Hodgson being old, could not climb up the hill fast enough to get out of the way of the flames.
