Gas.—The first street lamp in Gisborne lighted to-day. The Thomas Russell.—The s.s. Thomas Russell is detained in Auckland on account of the strike, but will sail on Monday afternoon. Auckland.— Our correspondent wires: — The Firemans and Seamens strike is assuming abnormal dimensions. Yesterday the following coasting steamers were on strike— Waitaki, McGregor,’Thomas Russell,Rowena, Argyl, Rotomahana, Douglas, Annie Milbank, Rose Casey, and Coromandel. At Onehunga the Lallah Rookh, Hannah Mokau, Wellington, and Glenelg. In all 81 men are on strike. Wanted.
