[Own Correspondent.] Legislative Council. Wellington, October 15. Second Headings. In the Council yesterday The Slaughter Houses Act Amendment

Bill, the Wellington Harbor Board Bill, and the Workmen’s Wages Bill were rial a second time. Third Leadings. The Anatomy Bill, and the Bills of Exchange Bill were read a third time and passed. House of Representatives. Third Leadings. In the House yesterday, The District Railway Leasing and Purchasing Bill was read a third time and passed on

a division by 40 to 21. Second Leadings. The Public Works Act Amendment Bill and the Land Act Amendment Bill (No. 2) were read a second time. Motion for Committee. Mr. Stout moved the committal of the Government Insurance Association Bill. Mr. Levestam and Mr. W. F. Buckland opposed the motion, urging that the matter should stand over till next session. After further discussion the motion was agreed to on the voices. In committee Sir George Grey appealed to the Government to report progress and allow the Bill to remain over till next session ; expressing his determination, sooner than allow the Bill to proceed, to talk all night. Mr. Stout said he would agree to report progress when some progress had been made, but otherwise he would remain all night. The motion for reporting progress was negatived by 37 to 9. Clauses up to 4 were passed and progress was reported. The Westport Harbor Board Bill and the Greymouth Harbor Bill were passed through committee and reported with amendments. The House rose at 1.25.
