COMMERCIAL.
[Specially Compiled for the Telephone.] [Own Correspondent.] Auckland, October 2. Business during the week has not shown much improvement upon previous weeks. The codlin moth pest, attention to which has been drawn by finding a number of the grubs in some cases of apples brought over, has received the attention of the Government who intend to take precautions towards preventing the importation of these orchard pests in future. It will now remain for fruitgrowers to do their utmost, so that the moth may not increase, and every means should be used to destroy them wherever found. In butter and eggs, there no alteration in prices to quote. The price of the former, wholesale, is Is. and retail Is 3d per lb. Eggs are quoted at 8d wholesale, and lOd per dozen retail. The stock and sharemarket during the past week has been exceedingly quite, transactions being few and small. Imperials have reached 275, a figure obtained no doubt in anticipation of next dividend.
