Parnf.ll Boylan.—This enterprising firm’s new advertisement will appear to-mor-row.

Te Waka Maori.—The Maori newspaper issued from this office was published this morning, and contains usual budget of news interesting to Natives and those who take an interest in Native matters.

The Trip.—The information published by us this morning, respecting the Hinemoa’s trip proved to be the correct version, as it has since been ascertained that the contemplated trip has been abandoned.

Child Poisoned.—lt was rumored in town to-day, that a child was poisoned last night, and had since died, but up to the time of going to press we were unable to obtain any. authentic particulars. Court.—At the R.M. Court this morning, an information was laid by Mr. C. D. Bennett against James Jones, for abusive language, and as there was no appearance of the accused a warrant was issued for his arrest. About a dozen civil cases, which were set down for hearing, were confessed. In the case A. W. Croft r. J. M. Smith, claim £3O ss. 3d., the plaintiff was nonsuited with costs, £4 4s. Parsonage.—A sale of useful work is to be held a few days before Christmas in aid of the fund for the erection of a parsonage for the Wesleyan Minister. A number of ladies have been busy for some time, and others have recently signified their intention of assisting the project so that it is expected that there will be a creditable show of work when the time comes.

Parliamentary Union.—A meeting will be held this evening at the County Council Chambers to take into consideration the advisability of forming a Parliamentary union in connection with the Gisborne Institute. These unions have now become very popular in several of the large centres, and no doubt could be made the means of instructing many in the mysteries of Parliamentary practice and would prove beneficial in many ways. A large attendance is expected. Laxd.—Labour supplies the following :— The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company is in possession of 347. V square miles of land in Queensland. Our readers will no doubt be interested in knowing how much land is held by other monetary institutions in the same colony. The New Zealand and Australian Land Company holds 2,061| square miles, or 1,319,280 acres. The Bank of New South Wales 18,052 square miles, or 11,043,680 acres. The Commercial Bank 7,829 square miles. The Scottish Australian Investment 6,265 square miles. Making a grand total of 68,112 square miles, or 43,592,240 acres.

Rowing Olub.—The opening of the season of the Rowing Club will take place to-morrow afternoon. The agent of the Union Steamship Company has kindly placed the steam launch Snark at the disposal of the Club to convey invited guests and the J Battery Band, which will follow the procession. All owners of boats are requested to take part in the proceedings, and if the weather proves fine a very enjoyable afternoon on the river is anticipated. The boats will start from the Club’s shed at 3 0 clock, and will pull down to the wharf, where the Snark will join them. After the usual course has been pulled over, the ceremony will wind up with the presentation of cups to the Senior Fours, which were won by them last season.
