Local and General.

Druids.—<A meeting of the U.A.O. D. will be held to-morrow evening. This being the quarterly meeting, all absentees will hold themselves liable to be fined.

Cricket.—At a meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Cricket Club it was decided not to accept the offer of the Poverty Bay Club to allow the former their materials and ground for £26, as that amount was considered exorbitant. It was agreed to offer them £lO.

Hawking.—The attention of persons in the habit of hawking good about for sale is directed to our report of hat night’s Council proceedings. Mr. Bounce will ba glad to interview all such,

Mrs. Speight.—This lady, who has for some time managed the extensive millinery and dressmaking business of Messrs. Graham Pitt & Bennett, is about to take her departure for Wellington, where she will preside over the establishment of Messrs. Kikrcaldie and Staines. Weighbridge.—When Mr. M. Davis’s application to the Council asking them to take over the weighbridge came came on, Cr. S. M. Wilson pointed out the danger often caused by teams of bullocks standing bo near a street corner as was necessary in the present position of the weighbridge, and suggested that it be moved at once. It was agreed to do so.

Query.—At last night’s meeting of the Council a circular was read from Mr. Badger, of Christchurch, asking for a record of any important cases that had been taken part in by the Council, to be placed in a law-book which the applicant is preparing. One gentleman present suggested that the recent fish-hawking case might be recorded, but the suggestion was not adopted.

The Marionettes.—The Marionettes repeated their wonderful performance last night, and succeeded in thoroughly satisfying the audience. This afternoon there was a matinee for the benefit of schools and families, which was very largely attended. This evening there will be an entire change of programme, and to-morrow the company will appear for the last time. All who miss the opportunity of seeing this unique entertainment will regret it.
