The Annexation Question.
[reuter’s telegrams.] Sydney, September 22. In declining to co-operate with Mr. Service in urging the Imperial Government to accelerate the annexation of New Guinea, Mr. Stuart stated that he was actuated principally by a desire to look upon the question in a broad light, and adopt that line of action by which the colonies would be more likely to accomplish the object they had at heart. He was most desirous that this should be done effectively, but with the least embarrassment possible to the interests of the whole empire.
