Cotherstone.—TMs well-known sire will be available during the coming season. The particulars of pedigree telegraphed were slightly incorrect, and the advertisement has now been amended. Cotherstone is by Young Cotherstone, imported from England, dam Norah, gd. Flirt by Canonball, dam Griselda.

Law Examination. — The examination of the law clerks which has been proceeding during this week before Mr. AVoon, was concluded yesterday, and the papers will be forwarded to Christchurch by the Te Anau tomorrow. The result will not probably be known for a month or so. The following are the names of those who went up:—F. Skeet, V. G. Day, E. Chrisp, J. Creswell, C. C. Ward, and Mount.

Thomas Russell.—AVe have been requested to draw attention to the fact that of all the cattle and sheep which have been conveyed to Auckland by the Thomas Russell not a single animal has been lost. The Russell is a very useful boat, and it will be to the interest of settlers to provide sufficient support to keep her trading to this port. The advantage of having her alongside the wharf, and thus doing away with the annoyance of transhipment is a consideration worthy of notice.

The Native Lands Court.—Chief Judge McDonald is to arrive to-morrow per Te Anau, and is to be interviewed by a number of Native claimants to lands relative to fixing sittings of Court at Tolago Bay, Wai-o-Mata-tini, and Gisborne. The Chief Judge is noted for readiness in promising Courts, but not quite so ready in fulfilling the premises. As suitors in the Court have to pay costs of the cases brought before the Judge, there can be no justification for a refusal to appoint Courts, and fail to do so for years together.

New Firm.—The Post is informed that a limited liability company is in course of formation to lake over the businesses of R. Hannah and Co., boot manufacturers, of Wellington, Napier, and Wanganui, and Hirst and Co., tanners, of Kaiwaira, and to greatly extend the same. The two establishments at present employ 180 hands, which means a large weekly expenditure in wages, etc. With increased capital the present proprietors can see their way to double their present trade, and should pay handsome dividends to shareholders. The prospectus, we hear, will be placed before the public in the course of a fews days.—AA r e understand it is in contemplation to open a branch of the business in Gisborne within a few days.
