INTERPROVINCIAL.
Weilington, September 16. Letters of naturalisation have been issued in favor of Frederick Renner, master mariner, Wellington. The geography of New Zealand and Australia by J. J. Patterson 8.A., and published in Christchurch, has been included in the list of class-books for public State schools in the colony. Negotiations are now pending with a view of turning the business of Messrs Hirst and Co., Messrs. R. Hannah and Co., and others into a joint stock company. It is anticipated that the prospectus will be placed before the public in a few days. Mr. T. W. Glover whose temperance crusade in this city has been very successful, had a farewell demonstration made in his honor. A procession was formed comprising members of the various temperance organisations, and headed by bands of music. In the Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning a very strange object was produced by a constable for the inspection of the magistrate. It was nothing less than a piece of the nose, preserved in a bottle of spirits, of a man named Fearon, which had been bitten off at Paikakariki. Daniel Mahoney, who was charged with the offence, was remanded on bail for the purpose of procuring evidence for the prosecution.
A burglary was committed at the premises of Mr. Stone, draper, Cuba-street, on Wednetday night. The thief, or thieves, pulled back the fastening of a back window and got in that way. A cash box containing notes, silver, and documents is missing. The burglar was evidently well acquainted with the premises, but it is strange that a silver watch in the same room was left untouched. It would appear from this that the thief was disturbed.
