ILL-TREATING A CHILD.—FOUR MONTHS’ IMPRISOMMENT. THE JUVENILE ROBBERS.—ONE MONTH EACH. [Per Press Association.] Auckland, September 13. George Blaike, farmer, of Mangere, has been fined £5 and costs for selling adulterated milk to the Auckland Dairy Company. An analysis showed 33 per cent, of water. Edward Rees has been committed for trial for larceny of two model steam engines.
The lads, John and George Evans and George Heads, were sentenced to one months’ hard labor, for robbing Mrs. Smith, of Dunedin, in the Western park. Wellington, September 13.
Dooley, for ill-treatment of a child, has been sentenced to four months. Mr. Wardell, R.M., said he had examined the child and found its body a livid mass of bruises, both thighs being as_b!ack as ink. He regretted he had no power to order the man to receive such a flogging as the child had been subjected to. Henry Todd, on three charges of embezzlement from the Gear Meat Co., was dismissed, Mr. Stafford, on behalf of the company, stating recent circumstances which had come to light made it impossible to substantiate the charges.
Nelson, September 13. An old woman residing with her daughter, Mrs. Colthart, at Foxhill, jumped down a well and was drowned. She has been very ill for some weeks.
