MEETING OF MONARCHS. FEARFUL RAVAGES OF CHOLERA INCREASING. [reuter’s telegrams.] London, September 10. It is authorititavely announced that Earl Dufferin will succeed the Marquis of Ripon as Viceroy and Governor-General of India. Arrived at Plymouth—New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamship Ruapehu, from Lyttelton, (July 26). Tenders are invited up to the 18th instant for a loan of £25,800 for the city of Sydney, bearing interest at the rate of 5 per cent. The minimum is fixed 107 J (sic). September 11.
At the instance of the Spanish Government, parleying has been renewed with a view to the conclusion of the Anglo-Spanish commercial treaty. Naples, September 9. Fully eight hundred cases of cholera occurred yesterday, and over three hundred deaths have taken place during the past twenty-four hours. Sept. 10. The cholera epidemic continues to rage in this city with unabated vigor. A few cases have also occurred at Rome, and fears are entertained that the disease may increase, notwithstanding the precautionary measures which have been taken. Madrid, September 10. Further cases of cholera have occurred in this country, and the disease is reported to be spreading. Berlin, September 10. The Emperor William will leave this city for Warsaw on Sunday next, with ‘the intention, it is understood, of meeting the Czar and the Emperor of Austria there. Cairo, September 10. Earl Northbrook waited upon the Khedive to-day, and presented his credentials as British Commissioner. The Khedive received his Lordship very cordially.
